A real rook foot with spread claws, with a bronze owl-head clasp, on a silver chain. A migratory bird that comes back first, carrying the border between seasons.

Symbology

The rook is a migratory bird that returns to Estonia every spring first, when the ground is still cold. Here it is the herald of spring, the sign that darkness yields. Its foot in the piece carries that double meaning: a creature that moves at the border of winter and spring, death and rebirth. The spread claws are a different gesture from holding. This is not grasping but an open form, a landing or a release. The owl-head clasp adds a second layer of meaning: the owl as wisdom and the keeper of the night, bookending the rook's dawn threshold. Two birds, two borders, one piece.
