Heather is a symbol of protection, peace and the connection between the human world and the spirit world in Celtic and northern European tradition. It grows on open moorland, in the exposed places between forest and sky, and has been used as a protective herb and a luck talisman. A jar of heather carried close is a small piece of that tradition.
