Symbology

The Ægishjálmur, or Helm of Awe, is one of the most powerful protective symbols in Norse mythology. It was used in battle to inspire fear in enemies and to protect the wearer from harm. The eight arms radiating from the center represent a force that extends in all directions, a total protection. In the Poetic Edda, the dragon Fafnir claims it as the source of his invincibility. Wearing it is a claim of that protective force.
